Celebrations Health is partnering with the Zimbabwe ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) to offer free cleft lip and palate surgeries for 50 children at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital from today until week end.
Speaking to Daily News yesterday, Celebrations Health director Freeblessing Murahwa said around 100 children have been screened for cleft lip and palate surgeries.
“We are offering free cleft lip and palate surgeries in partnership with MOHCC and our target is to offer surgeries to 50 children.
“We are starting today until Friday and per day we will operate on 10 children.
“It is very important for the children to get these operations done because if children grow with cleft lip issues their lifestyle is compromised, “he said
He added the benefiting children have come from different places across the country.
“We have shared the information with people in rural communities so that they will be able to come here because these operations need proper hospitals with theatres.
“Cleft lip and palate problems will result in problems of feeding, eating and ear infections, “ said Murahwa.
Zimbabwe is currently recording around 250 children born with cleft lip and palate complications. – Daily News
